Snow Days at Busch Gardens Williamsburg

Schools are closed!  You got to stay home for the day because there are several inches of snow on the ground and you are snuggled in under a warm blanket with coffee and a great movie.  It is a different story for our dedicated and passionate zoological team.  Our animal care professionals are putting on several layers of clothing and braving the weather and the commute to take care of our zoological collection.

Prior to the storm, our zoo team was preparing for days so all of the animals would be warm and comfortable.  At the Highland Stables our African Pygmy goats, Wellsummer chickens, Border collies and Irish setters were moved inside.  Our team moved 20+ bales of hay around to ensure that the Clydesdales, Scottish Black-Faced sheep and Highland cattle had what they needed for the duration of the storm. We also ensured that all of the water sources for the animals had heating elements in them at that they were all plugged in and functioning properly.

The zoological team arrives early in the morning and is greeted by the Border collies and Irish setters at the Stables.  The team feeds them and gives them fresh water and spends lots of time playing with them in the snow.  The Irish setters will chase snowballs and wrestle and romp around with each other.  The Border collies join in the fun with a favorite ball for Molly and Skye with her favorite ring toy.  Once the dogs are all set, the chickens and goats have been fed and the area has been cleaned, the team heads to our pasture area to take care of all of the animals out there.  The Clydesdales run around and play in the snow and will “horse play” with each other while the team is preparing their food.  Check out the below videos of some of our Clydesdales enjoying the fluffy white stuff!  Our staff is here every day, ensuring that all of our animals getting all that they need and want – no matter what kind of weather we’re having.

Enjoy the weather; we sure are!
